Singapore at the Core of a Scaling Economy
Inside What Happened on 9–10 April
GITEX AI ASIA 2026 was a strong proof point for how quickly Asia’s AI economy is maturing. The event brought over 550 global technology enterprises and startups, 250+ influential investors, 175+ speakers, with participation from more than 110 countries, which makes it more than a conference and exhibition, it is a live market signal for where the region is heading.
What stood out most was the shift from AI as a concept to AI as infrastructure, business strategy, and commercial execution. Across the show floor and conference rooms, the focus was not on what AI might do someday, but on how companies are already deploying it across compute, cybersecurity, telecoms, robotics, and enterprise systems.
Singapore’s role in this picture is hard to miss. Regional AI spending is projected to reach US$78 billion by 2026, while Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia are expected to account for 40% of global data centre capacity by 2030. That puts Singapore at the center of the region’s AI buildout — not just as a host city, but as a strategic hub for infrastructure, capital, and innovation.
Highlights that mattered
Several company names and showcases captured the broader direction of the market. Gorilla Technology and Yotta announced a US$500 million AI infrastructure play, which is a strong indicator that compute is becoming a serious commercial asset in Asia. Blaize and Nokia highlighted a joint AI solution showcase, reinforcing the idea that AI is moving deeper into network architecture and enterprise deployment.
Other on-floor highlights included iFLYTEK, which showcased its AI Glasses and AI Interpret Mic, Timekettle, which debuted its W4 AI Interpreter Earbuds, and WPS 365, which presented its all-in-one AI office solution. These examples matter because they show AI being used in real products, not just discussed in abstract terms.
The Supernova Pitch Competition showcased the competitive edge of Asia’s startup ecosystem, with Tan Wei Zhuang, Founder & CEO of Ailytics (Singapore) taking 1st place and SGD 30,000; LifeScapes (Japan) earning 2nd place and SGD 20,000; and Code Presso (Republic of Korea) securing 3rd place and SGD 10,000. Special awards went to Literal Labs (Z by HP Mobile Workstation Credits), Cerebro (Expand North Star Award), and Fairvaluation (GITEX AI Vietnam Award). These results reflect real investor interest and tangible opportunities emerging from the event.
Credibility signals
Some of the most useful comments came from industry leaders. Demetris Skourides said, “The question is no longer whether AI will change the world — it already has,” and pointed to governance, value capture, and human oversight as the real challenge now.
Nicole Beckstein of QAI Ventures pointed to Singapore’s growing quantum and deep-tech base, saying the ecosystem has “serious momentum” backed by government support, research, IP, and entrepreneurship.
Yasin Khan of Ericsson Southeast Asia, Oceania and India also said the event stood out for bringing together the “entire innovation chain” — startups, enterprises, academia, solution providers, and policymakers — in one environment. That is exactly why the event feels economically significant, not just visible.
Why this matters for Asia
The bigger story is not simply that Singapore hosted a large tech event. It is that the event reflected a region-wide transition toward AI that is being built, funded, and deployed at scale. The combination of enterprise buyers, investors, infrastructure players, and startups suggests that Asia’s AI economy is no longer waiting for maturity — it is actively forming it.
For Singapore, this is especially important. The city is positioning itself as the meeting point for capital, compute, policy, and cross-border innovation, and GITEX AI ASIA 2026 reinforced that role. For the wider region, it showed that the next phase of AI growth will likely be defined by infrastructure readiness, trustworthy deployment, and commercial execution at scale.
